Patricia Leigh Carl, 84, Of Rhinebeck

RHINEBECK, N.Y. — Patricia Leigh Carl, of Rhinebeck, died Nov. 24. She was 84.

Born Aug. 5, 1932, in Sanford, Maine, she was the daughter of the late Roland M. Jackson and Eleanor Walker Jackson.

On Feb. 25, 1951, she married Arthur Wallace Carl, who survives at home.

She was in the 1950 graduating class at Sanford High School. She and Arthur resided in Sanford until 1956, when they moved to Rhinebeck.

An avid quilter, she started her own quilt shop in her home, The Country Shop. She developed close friendships with many of those who shared her creativity and love of the craft. She enjoyed 10 years of teaching at Rhinebeck Central School, working closely with students in the Resource Room and maintained relationships with many of them throughout her life. She expressed her compassion for others by volunteering for the Dutchess County Literacy Program, the Friendly Club, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. She opened her home to AFS students and Astor Home children.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Sheryl (John Donohue) Lloyd, Michael (Paula) Carl, Cathy (David Coon) Carl, and Karin (Joe) Hafner; grandchildren, Colin (Lisa) Lloyd, Stewart Fenderson, Katie (Steven) Cronk, Jessie Bouton, Mike Carl, Adam Eggleston, Brianna Hafner, and Joseph Hafner III; great-grandchildren, Quinton and Max Lloyd, Sophie Fenderson, and Leo Cronk, and brother, Roland Jackson and his wife Marie.

Memorial visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home, 51 W. Market St., Rhinebeck. Graveside services will be conducted at 11a.m. Saturday at the Wurtemburg Cemetery in Rhinebeck.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to St. Jude's Hospital.
